Planting In Raised Beds
Planting In Raised Beds
I couldn’t wait any longer to plant my seedlings in their final home! Today I planted out many of my cold weather plants! These plants have been outside for a few weeks now and completely hardened off and dying to get in the ground. The plants that went in the ground today are ass follows:
Cauliflower
Broccoli
Brussel Sprouts
Broccoli Rabe
Kale
Lettuce
Escarole
Spinach
Red Cabbage
Green Cabbage
Bok Choy
To prep the raised beds I loosened up the Sweet Peet soil I had in there. I dug individual holes for each seedling which I based on the square foot gardening method to maximize my crop. In each hole I put a half handful of worm castings and about 2 tablespoons of bloodmeal. I used these fertilizers as everything I put in the ground are heavy feeders of nitrogen.
Here are some snapshots as of 04/07/21.
05/19/21: Update
Man what can I say! The raised beds are flourishing more than ever. I have been doing cut and come again for lettuce and escarole. Broccoli rabe has been tasting quite good for dinner as well as kale for lunch and dinner salads.
