Plastic Containers To The Rescue

Plastic Water Bottles Saving Your Back & Wallet

Do you have a large garbage can full of recyclables to bring to your local store to recycle?  This trick can save you a trip to the store.

I am sure carrying those heavy pots around the yard or two and from the garage are taking a toll on your back.  I know they are on mine!  I would always put rocks on the bottom of the pot to help with drainage, it did work but man was that even MORE heavy.  Not to mention filling all those pots with soil can start to drain the wallet.  Those containers 2-3 feet in height seem to really use up those bags of soil in the blink of an eye.  To me I never believed the plants roots ever would reach the bottom.  This method will really lighten up those pots and wallet for a much less cost!

So What Do You Need

-Plastic Containers with lids
-Potting Soil
-Large Pot with holes at the bottom
-Landscape Fabric

Go into your garage and grab some of those empty plastic containers that have been sitting there for weeks or months gathering up and creating an eye sore.  Keep the lid on tightly on the empty containers.  Fill the bottom of your pot about 1/3 of the way with the plastic containers.  Place the landscaping fabric over these containers.  Fill the remainder of your pot up with the potting soil leaving room for your plant.  Not only does this method use much less soil, but the pots are incredibly lighter to move around.  The bottles at the bottom promote air circulation, keep the soil cooler at the bottom, provide better drainage.

Hallelujah to your back and wallet!
